adam jay’s “mediastinum ep” is the product of a near death experience turned into an opportunity to create. after experiencing acute trauma to the left lung, the artist was diagnosed with pneumomediastinum, the sounds featured in the production of this record were recorded in the intensive care unit at community east hospital in indianapolis. “inward” is a raw, stripped down stomper filled with anxiety and a pace of purpose. the a2 track, “terrible precision” brings an atmosphere of tension and darkness that drives the ep forward. the synth groove of “chatter” sits atop the recordings of medical monitoring equipment intended to alarm the listener. the unsettling dischord created is contrasted by a powerful low end groove. “concert of the machines” comes with an addictive half time broken beat groove. the warm, effected electric piano work plays off more alert sounds from the hospital room creating a chilled out vibe that is ideal for closing a set. already support from justin berkovi, nigel richards, gayle san, tony rohr, andrei morant, and brian kage.

unclear006 sees the return of the label boss elia perrone, who composed a latin sounds influenced music, with piano solos, long synths, fully melted in a continuous journey.

the first of two remix discs of ivanos excellent lp. up first are bristol residents outboxx who bring a slick electro vibe to 113. chilled and melodic with a classic sounding b-line, this is one of the best remixes to feature on the label to date. flip for two remixes by roger gerressen, a member of the eshu collective along with mr tetelepta. his 117 remix is a slick house affair again with the b-line very much in the fore. his take on 119 is a much deeper affair, dubbed in its outlook with the melancholic piano stabs of the original a main feature.

turn on the strobe lights and the fog machine. shtum returns with its second record, this time by dresdens very own kryptic universe. his ep comes with five cuts full of dark and gritty future jazz. his techno funk is playful as it is evocative. just listen to the bass line in *a light in the box* and the appropriately titled *critters funk*. not to mention the crazy piano in the title song and the rather hard-hitting *dark sky*. on top we got the mighty xdb on remix duties and his take on *signals*. again, the illustration on the b-side label is by aram haydeyan.

the first installment of alex agores mizz honey ep ensured the prolific german producer debuted fully on the say ahh! label. this second edition of the mizz honey series maintains those high standards and hopefully ensures the door remains open for subsequent agore output on the label run by the brotherly duo of mk and scottie deep. *x* sets the tone, looking to a salsoul gem for vocal inspiration and swamping the sample in a thick, bumping house groove spread across the a side that must have instantly grabbed the brothers kinchen. the flip pairs the finger snapping, soulful slam of *ice crystals* with the immediately infectious piano house business of *everyday (u lift me up)*.

last year kyodai dropped breaking, which to date is the biggest selling release on local talk. now the brothers are back with in our opinion a future house anthem. the scene is a classic piano house cut that’s impossible to resist and together with one the coolest vocal samples we’ve ever heard we think this has the potential to go really big. when the breakdown drops we’re pretty sure everybody in the club will chant. but as if this was not enough we also got another big tune on the b-side. moving is the continuation of “breaking” and goes along the same lines with its crossover jazz styled house. once again kyodai delivers a supa solid house production with large jazz breakdowns and old school vocals that’s right up their with ”breaking”. this is also why we called it…breaking pt.2. kyodai is currently working on their debut album for local talk which is due later this year. they’re also travelling around the world with their amazing live dj set that we highly recommend. trust us when we say that these two brothers really now how to turn up the heat in a club…serious biz!

mule musiq now proudly presents eleven unreleased compositions by roedelius produced between 1990 and 2001. all of them are pearls of electronic deepness that show another side of the man that lives in the little lower austrian town baden. his famouse ultra sweet piano melodies can be heard – but they are not the centre of the productions. instead a more electronic side of his genius call the tune. with a minimalistic approach he let synth melodies highfly while some droney, melancholic atmospheres enlarge in the background.

having established his own basic grooves imprint with a trio of sultry new jersey influenced house releases, shane linehan hands the fourth release over to up and coming french producer janeret. *hard deep* goes even, ahem, deeper that linehans efforts for the label, combining a slamming mid-tempo kick drum with crisp and cavernous dub piano chords and the subtlest of organ riffs, making a nice contrast to the more upbeat styles of linehan. on the flip, linehan delivers his own version of track which ups the tempo and offers a ravey, pitched take on the originals simple one chord piano line, complete with bristling hi-hats and warm pad breakdown.

after appearances on werkstoff and kammer musik neal white is back home on eintakt records with a quite playful while straight ahead thinking 12 inch. we start off deep underwater with the title track, a melancholic dubtechno drifter with a touch of pop called goldfish. enjoyable pianos, a rainy atmosphere, some classic chords and that tasty voice by klavinora make that track a proper name giver. after that wet a-side we come up afloat facing the livefish remix from rhauder (famous artist on the great label ornaments) on the other vinyl side, a reduced (even a bit) stoic floor operator, driving us through the confusions of the autumn sea. coming ashore and meeting queen ema is peaceable after all that. conciliating with the world and weather while getting surrounded by warm pads, curly effects and again the piano hints played by klavinora

the second part of the >what about talk about< series by baaz starts with >owls night<. a deep house tool with a vigorous bassline, some classic 909 elements, weird vocals and a pumpin piano chord. >those things< the second track on the a, infects you with positive vibrations and the magic mood. the b side enters with a remix by the highly skilled producer michel bauman under his moniker soulphiction. he turned the track called k.m.s. into an emotional and strong kicking house tune. a cut for the special moments. the original is produced by iron curtis & baaz . 90 bpm, a dippy pipe organ, wooden beats and shaky percussions. the last track >whatabouttalkabout< is a lush experimental listening slice, prober for the dark and chilly winterdays.

luc who? marianni? this reclusive french composer paved the underground music history with a handful of mind-blowing lps but still managed to surprisingly fall under the radar. even the experts seem to have forgotten about him when there were clues all over the place! it is true luc marianni didnt belong to no family but his own, with his constant work-in-progress through the gathering of friends and the odd random musical chance meeting.

is it balearic hit their late 20s with another superb release - this time craig bratley steps up with analogue dreams. craig has earnt quite a reputation from only a handful of releases, including the weatherall favourite and classic cut >birdshell< on instruments of rapture. on analgue dreams, craig lays down a gently evolving, acid tinged piano slow burner, all mood and melody. first up on the remix we have the ever essential bonar bradberry who amps things up and takes a clonking bass riff down the disco for a real good time. on the flip crimea x pare the musical elements right down and build an epic remix from the raw ingredients, employing live percussion and shimmering synths. finally joes bakery dial down the tempo and incorporate some deft acoustic guitar and gentle moodswings alongside the musical elements of the original.

diva is a project which explores the outer regions of technos psyche - combining the trippy sensuality of chris & cosey with the brutalist analogue aesthetic of the likes of robert hood or liasons dangereuses. inspired by the vocal histrionics of strobe lit sirens such as loleatta holloway and jocelyn brown, diva calls on the protean roots of basement club music. lead track >paris stabbing< is a stunning excursion into motor city madness, abstracted disco vocals clash with a broken digi-arpeggio and hooverish bass break down, whilst the flip side >but i ve never< imposes a detuned synth siren over an industrial bass sequence and sp1200 piano stabs to eerie effect. also included is the >paris stabbing (beats)< which pares down the original, adding detuned melodic percussion into a minimalist after hours tool.

burkhardts latest stroke, including the hit delight. now we are back again with a charming selection of remixes, including work by tobi neumann and julien veniel aka djulz. tobi neumanns remix reminds the attentive listener to the old days of oslo. it is so to speak on the point. its light, but still complex in a special way. tobi carefully unhinged the catchy vocals of delight, added it at some points and put his glance over it. the b-side is home to djulzs interpretation of pianissimo. a dark and powerful house track, that finds its glory in its simplicity. a subtle piano sample is the basis for a forward moving drum pattern. here and there an eerie vocal shot rises and guides the dancer through the musical mind of djulz.

two proper peak time house tracks here from the organ grinder blending uk garage vibes with traditional us house. my rendition is a refined and warm housey affair which kicks off on a light piano tip before the bass creeps in to disarm and charm dance floors. vocal snippets drop in over the breakdowns and the tracks irresistible melody to lead it to an intense atmospheric peak. jersey jam is a svelte jersey style future groover which sticks to the basic principles of crisp drums paired with a melodic hook set around a simple and quirky arrangement with an infectious vocal gluing the whole track together.

the >just for fun< ep starts with the title track just4fun, which in fact breathes fun and doesnt take itself too seriously. the funky and highly infectious keys and the butt shaking groove will remind you of a track that moodymann never made, but wishes he had. next comes unlimited01 with a joyful piano melody that would fit right into a french disco with a funkier version of alain delon behind the decks. still, the rhodes chords, the slow sexy groove, the vocal hooks will get you moving in no time. thang then goes into a more detroit beatdown direction with its deep chords and smooth pads. it creates a mellow atmosphere with an almost relaxed summer feeling. this is what a funky pimp would listen to on a night car drive. the ep ends with spiritual almost tribal rhythms. inspiration would be a nice soundtrack to a 70s orgy orchestrated by a groovy guru, surrounded by a magical circle of mystical dancers. over the top? sure, but the track would certainly get this party going.

after what has seemed like 134 years of shame and reluctance of their own release, based on the fact that the unbeat- able thoroughness of the filthy and yet so unintentional live sets of the three fearless brothers schleck^stecker, these old warhorses are back for another round and on the way burning 4 sauna-sweaty, steamy joints into the grooves of the vinyl.

as a man well versed in the moves of the old-school, fabio monesi launches his albion imprint with the immaculately executed styles of 623, full of sexy 90s synth notes and crisp, pumping beats. washerman brings a more rugged style on his remix of the tune, dropping in some cheeky and thoroughly familiar samples, while the melody wobbles around an amorphous scale. the peephouse finds monesi reaching back to the soothing organ tones of the dx7, with a gentle and piano-driven throw down that stills carries plenty of heft for the floor. rio padice steps up for another remix of 623 and spreads a strange and nervous shape-shifter of a late-night jam, scattering the vocals like confetti and nudging the drums out of joint on a whim.

continuing their forays into the world of yesteryear grooves unabated, those pesky hell-dwelling lumberjacks are at it again, this time drafting in o boogie and red greg for some disco funk finesse for the smoothest get-downs. o boogie lords it over the first side, leaning heavy on a rich piano hook that hammers lower register chords over an incessant disco tick, while evergreen track >papa was a rolling stone< gets re-versioned in such a floor-burning fashion you will need asbestos boots just to get out alive. red gregs >inner rhythm< plies familiar tropes into a sweet instrumental groove that makes all the right moves.

assemble music returns with a three-track ep from colognes david joseph aka st. joseph, exploring further the refined, tripping path forged on the labels previous release from daze maxim. the pianos, vocal snatches and ambient hiss of josephs releases on platzhirsch are present and correct, but here the jazz flourishes are reduced down into something far slicker. these tracks have been prepared using a keen blade, and none sharper than >personal dancefloor<. heavy drum programming and a rumbling bottom end bring to mind theo parrish in his moodier moments, but the deal is sweetened by light piano, garage-like vocal samples and a deep, burning 4 love bassline. >indigo< spins the duke ellington classic into a spiralling, shuffling chugger that will bring a 30s harlem spirit to enterprising dancefloors. move the needle to the b2, though, for the eps party hit. written in 2009 and reflecting that years raw arrangements and joyous samples, >wave/table/muscle< finally gets a vinyl release, proving this sound endures to this day. expect more of the same from assemble music with their next release featuring vera and ricardo villalobos.

japans rhythm of elements return with another e.p. that display their versatility and belief in the many forms that soulful music can take. >tribe #3< contains the classic rhythm of elements combination of dj uchikawas firing electronic beats alongside virtuoso piano playing by makoto kuriya, plus bass by incognitos francis hylton. the track is a tribute to the late departed detroit electronic music artist aaron carl who sadly passed away last year. continuing the detroit connection, rick wilhite has been working with the likes of theo parrish and moodymann for years, and his remix of >tribe #3< provides an audio beatdown, stripping the whole thing down to its rawest elements, and supplying the hard and the smooth in perfect balance. >blow< is another journey into a percussive horn driven groove for the dancefloor. rhythm of elements provide the remix, layering the musical elements like flavours in a delicious cake. finally, >meditation bath< (loftsoul 2012 mix) takes the pace right down for this beautifully relaxing slow burner. close your eyes and let it flow over you.

there are a number of theories as to how, in the mid-20th century, african music made its way to colombias vibrant port city of barranquilla, todays mecca of caribbean tropical music flled with the chaos of loud music, frenetic taxis, delicious sancocho soup aromas and a charminglycolourful aura. some maintain that a man named boquebaba remains responsible. others claim that seafaring traders and merchants imported the frst sizeable amount of african vinyl.

a romanian collective of 3 different artist. each track based around a funk within each bassline. all inviting the listener to the dance floor. atlantziiduo comes from bucharest with a strong base around natural drums & percussions. their track >antilopa< a warm bass that brings out the groove as the gentle ambient pad drifts across drops of wood blocks and open hats egal 3 is no stranger having been on the tongues and tables of many clubs the past 2 years. this young addition the yimuzik family grimes out >remaster< for b1. funky bass hook grabs the listener building up to the piano drop. melody overlaps snare rolls as the blessing vocal sample gives praise. derek, another stallion to yimuzik stable, spices things up with >skjape<on b2. a storm of rhythm with a rounder bass and touch of rawness.
